The Orchards

Barton Orchards is one such location loved by many people living within the city. It is a humble family-owned apple orchard spread out over 175 acres, including a vegetable farm along with countless other engaging activities.

The farm is located in Poughquag, NY, and is owned and maintained by Peter Barton. Barton promises all of his visitors unlimited fun on their trip to Barton Orchards as long as they follow the park’s rules. These rules are mentioned on the website.

History of the Orchards

A trip to Barton Orchards might pull you towards its apple farms. However, that is not the whole story. The Orchard started as an apple farm that Bruce and Rose Barton jointly owned. Back then, apples were the most important item that the farm sold.

However, the couple soon realized that the public was missing out on the attraction they witnessed daily. Thus, they introduced the pick-your-own apple orchard. It was one of its kind at the time. To this day, the Barton family owns the farm. They maintain and conduct all the apple-picking activities themselves.

Activities in Barton Orchards

Your trip to Barton Orchards is incomplete without a thorough guide to all the activities you need to enjoy. Here’s a list;

1.      Farm Attractions

This is the most important part of the orchards. These activities are what the orchards are known for, and they are open all year round.

A.      Pick Your Own

The Orchard doesn’t just offer a pick-your-own apple attraction. It also allows you to go through the land and pick different vegetables and fruits that you can find. This also includes hay rides which the customers can use to go around the farm and pick different items.

B.       The Apple Core

The Apple Core is just another name for a farm within the Barton Orchards. It is one of the oldest additions to the farm and is currently used to supply different treats to locals or tourists that are sourced from the Orchard.

C.       Farmer’s Market

The Farmer’s Market, also known as the Farm Market, is another attraction that relies on the Orchard. It sources fresh vegetables and fruits from the Orchard and creates delicious jars filled with jellies, jams, and some savory jarred items. You can also find other goods, such as handmade soaps made from apples.

D.      Corn Maze

The five-acre maze is a popular attraction as it is decorated according to festivals. The maze is home to many live musical performances and looks beautiful during the holidays when most festivals occur.

E.       Bark Park

This Orchard is dog friendly. In fact, it has a place designated for dogs where you can take off their leashes. Lead your dog to the famous Bark Park and let them run free! This leash-free dog park allows your dog to stretch their legs and interact with others.

F.       The Haunted House

This isn’t for the faint of heart. However, if you want to challenge yourself, you can choose to visit this popular attraction with your children. Make sure you leave smaller children behind as they might not be able to handle many of the attractions within this building.

2.      Outside the Orchards

You can also choose to visit the Tree Top Adventures outside the Orchards, which includes Whaley Lake Creek, some smaller local mammals, and places to climb.

3.      Other Activities in Barton Orchards

Aside from activities related to the farm itself, the Orchards also allow their visitors a place to relax. This includes the famous “Tap Room,” which includes beers and cider. Alternatively, you can take your family to one of the many restaurants located in the area.

You can visit Granny Smith’s Kitchen if you are looking for a place that serves great hot dogs, burgers, fried chicken, or other fast food. Following the main course, you can choose to cool off with some ice cream from Midway Melt.

Barton Orchards also offers many other events that change according to the season. The best time to visit the park is during the fall harvest, which includes live musical events, activities, food stalls, and competitive games.

How to Visit Barton Orchards

Your trip to Barton Orchards doesn’t have to cost much. If you want to pick apples, simply come by any day of the week besides the weekends or at festivals. Entry is free of charge on these days. You don’t need to pay to park, so you can easily leave your car without worrying about paying.

Final Thoughts

Orchards aren’t a place everyone wants to visit. However, these apple orchards will make you fall in love with them. They aren’t just known for their scenery and landscapes but for their delicious apples and vegetables, which are available all year round.

If you want to enjoy all the popular attractions on your visit, it is crucial to plan accordingly.
